Gulagbi comes from the Argo language of the Western Province in Papua New Guinea and means“everyone working together to achieve something.” With the blessings of the Argo people, we carry this name as a guiding principle in all we do. It reflects our belief that lasting change happens through unity — when communities, families, and partners join hands to create healthier, stronger futures together.

Our Mission: Working with vulnerable populations we aim to facilitate the empowerment of local communities through bottom-up participatory development, which promotes the agency and self determination of local people through holistic, collaborative development. Embracing local ecological knowledge, culture, ideas, and skills, we seek to foster synergistic and sustainable systems, while advancing economic, health and wellbeing opportunities.”
Our Projects
Papua New Guinea
Where it all began. Gulagbi has been actively supporting people in remote communities of Papua New Guinea for more than a decade, improving access to infrastructure, healthcare and birth services.
Far North Queensland
Relationships formed with our neighbours in Papua New Guinea paved the way to supporting remote PNG residents when they travel to Far North Queensland for medical treatment.
Postpartum Care Project
Join us as we embark on an exciting new mission to provide culturally appropriate and deeply nurturing care for mothers and babies in Far North Queensland during the sacred postpartum time.
Laos Birthwork Project
Gulagbi is proud to be a collaborative partner with the Laos Birthwork Project, providing on the ground support and training to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in Laos.
The Midwife Project - Guatemala
We’re proud to be partnering with The Midwife Project Guatemala to support their mission to offer safe, dignified and culturally appropriate health care to women in Guatemala by empowering indigenous midwives, and revaluing ancestral knowledge while integrating modern medical practices.
Breech Without Borders
We’re proud to be partnering with Breech Without Borders to bring life-changing breech and twin birth training to Australia and beyond. Together, we’ll be delivering hands-on simulation training, community education, and policy advocacy to restore choice, confidence, and safety for families navigating breech and twin pregnancies—especially in regions where options are limited.
